Mother's Day Activity

At 2pm of May 11, at the Qingpu center, the classroom is filled with bursts of joyful laughter.Three teachers, Maya,Liz and Kate are talking with 32 children.

"Is there anybody who knows what day is it today?"

"Mother's Day!"

"Mothers take the trouble to prepare our breakfast, lunch and supper everyday. What shall we say to express our thanks in return?"
"I will cook for my mum when I grow up"

"Today, we will make a Thank You Card for mum, do you agree? "
"Ok!" The answers somewhat naïve, but loud enough.

With Maya's guidance, and the help of 3 little teacherassistant - Paul, Louisa and Mia - the children are excited to choose the colored paper, draw the heart and cut it with scissors. Then they glue it onto paper of a different color.  A beautiful card isdone.

Then the children decorate the cards with color pens and beautiful stickers. Paul, Louisa and Miaare also very busy providing any assistance needed, helping children to write "xie xie ma ma, wo ai ni! ""May 11th""thanks mother”,”I love you”. And in response to their help, " xie xie " " thanks" were spokenby children one after another.

After 30 minutes, each child finishes making his or her own card. They areshowing it excitedly to each other.

" Anyonewho has finished the card will be given a little reward. Before that, we need to wash our hands."is the good news announced by Maya.
While the cheerful children are washing their hands, the teachers and 3 TAs are busy setting up the table. They are divided into four groups.   "Heart cookie" group member is Louisa and Kate. " Colored syrup" isMia and Maya. "Sugar needle" is Paul and Liz. Last table is "Milk".

In the whole process, the children stand in an orderly line to accept their cookie with a polite "thanks" or "xie xie ". Four children keep their heart cookie and tell us they will bring it back to mum.

The joyful time goes fast. The activity is almost at an end. With three teachers taking the lead, the children are singing a song " shi shang zhi you ma ma hao", leaving their smiling face in the camera, then running into their mothers’armswith their handmade Thank You Cards and beautiful blooming roses.
