Golden Year Kindergarten Field Trip autumn 2009 – Sponsored by Austcham / You Dao

Project(s):
Qingcun

On 4 November 2009, children holding their parent's hand together and their teachers boarded the tourist bus and after about an hour arrived in Shanghai Changfeng Park.

The children were immediately attracted by a park filled with color and fragrance. Their faces filled with excitement and joy. Several members of You Dao joined them for the outing and it gave some added fun to the activities. The children visited the Aquarium which is the main feature of Changfeng Park. The kids were attracted by the underwater creatures which included all kinds of fish varieties. They had their face pushed right up against the glass and were excited by what they saw. Some screamed with excitement from time to time by what they saw. Their parents were busy taking pictures and recording countless beautiful moments. Some fathers put their children over their shoulders and watched and experienced the mysteries of the ocean together. There were some children hang around the area with penguins for a long time. It was not difficult to see how excited the children were. Afterward, the Children and their parents enjoyed lunch together on the grass. In the afternoon, the children enjoyed playing two games: the small Trojan and a small train. Then the children and their parents entered and seated themselves in the Aquarium once again to watch the white whale show. They really enjoyed the excitement and cheers of that performance. The group departed from the Changfeng Park at 2:30pm. On the journey back, some children were so tired that they slept in their father or mother's arms. Some children were still excited and discussed the today's activities with their parents. Their recollections were about the underwater world, Trojan horses, small train, white whale performances and many others. Both parents and children were very happy. The field trip has broadened the children’s view; enriched their experience, and strengthened their bonds with their parents. At the same time because of the close cooperation and communication during the activity between parents and teachers, it has also brought the relationship closer between them. It helps to build a strong relationship between the children’s home and the kindergarten. It will benefit the effectiveness of the kindergarten education. Back at the kindergarten, the parents gave particularly good feedback. Some parents commented that in the past they seldom participate in such activities due to work. They rarely accompany their children out to play. They really appreciate that the kindergarten supported by a charitable group could organize such activities. It allowed them to share some fun time with their child and enhance communication with their child. It also helped the parents to be exposed to new people and new ideas. They are looking forward to the next event.
