On the afternoon of Dec. 19 eight families whose children receive education support from You Dao Foundation met in Yuan Xiang Hu Park for a lovely family day.
We started at 1 pm with a welcome speech by Teacher Du for families and You Dao volunteers.
The first event was free painting for the children on the theme of Christmas in My Heart. Inspired and encouraged by their parents and the volunteers, the children enjoyed their colorful crayons. We knew the children were talented, and their talents soon expressed themselves in a variety of individual styles. Parents and children enjoyed looking at their little masterpieces – a lovely sense of achievement!
Next was a big favorite, parent-children games. You Dao has found these especially meaningful for families in which both parents are often working and out of the home, unable to spend as much time with their children as they would like. Parents, children and volunteers were divided into a red team and a green team for five different games, and there was plenty of fun and happiness for all. The children and parents encouraged each other, helped each other and worked together. There was the ceaseless sound of cheer and laughter. The red team won, but there were prizes for the green team too, presented by You Dao Director Alice Xie who praised everyone for their fine performance.
Everyone needed a break after the games, and You Dao staff had cakes and fruit ready for everyone. Everyone was most careful to take care of protecting the environment, collecting all the trash and putting it where it belonged, a good lesson for the children and for we adults as well.
You Dao Director Alice Xie closed the day by delivering gifts provided by “PINT HOUSE”, to each participating child. The day finished with grateful parents and happy children – which is what we like to see at You Dao.
